The Truth About Alopecia And Hair Loss In The Next 60 Seconds.

Lustrous and slayed hair you will find is the trademark of many females. In a perfect world, a female’s hair is viewed as one of her best accessories on display. But if you are among that 60 % of the females, who are suffering from hair problems, hair loss, (alopecia), or thinning edges; then you know the shock of feeling like less than when it comes to hair loss.

Hair loss in females is still considered a taboo in society and is still very much a problem with the females suffering from hair loss or hair thinning problems. Most recently, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley spoke candidly about her alopecia diagnosis and her struggle to confront it and still feel confident enough to wear her crown. Check out her interview here.

The causes of hair loss in a woman can be any, like; harsh hair treatments, hormonal changes during pregnancy, or menopause. Stress and unhealthy eating habits, anemia and lack of vitamin D also lead to hair problems. Sometimes, hair thinning in females may be genetic. The hair thinning as a genetic factor normally occurs between 18 to 24 years of age.

The most common form of hair loss due to genetic or other medical factors is alopecia androgenetic. This is the sort of hair problem in which the hair becomes extremely thin so that one can see through it. Alopecia areata is another form of hair problem that normally starts as tiny bald patches but may result in total hair loss, if not taken care of. If you can believe it, almost one-quarter of the world population is suffering from some type of hair problems. And any sort of hair problem in females affects self-confidence and sometimes, may even lead to anxiety and depression.

According to Hopkins medicine, black women are more prone to a form of alopecia called traction alopecia which is brought on by heat, tight styles such as braids, extensions, locks, weaves and chemicals that brings tension on the hair root. Women themselves do not feel comfortable openly discussing their problems, according to a clinical analysis, one in every four women is suffering from hair problems. However, we commend Mrs. Pressly for openly and bravely sharing her journey which hopefully inspires many other women to embrace and deal with her own hair loss story. In the words of Ayanna "I am not my hair, but I still want it". Grab the tee here.

The first step in settling any sort of hair problem is, distinguishing the nature of hair loss you are suffering from. There are several treatment options available for treating hair problems, depending on the kind and severity of problems. Your doctor may suggest you some oil/cream/lotion to apply on your scalps. If hair loss is due to hormonal or hereditary or due to some other serious health problems then your doctor may prescribe you a variety of medications.

Please consult with a health care professional when it comes to hair loss. Although these aren't full proof methods when it comes to trying to prevent hair loss.

Here are some given some tips and tricks to aid you in your hair care regimen.

1. Analyze your diet. Nutrition plays a vital role in keeping healthy tresses. Lack of essential vitamins and minerals and proteins etc may switch hair problems. Consult with your doctor/nutritionist for help.

2. Opt for a loose and comfortable hairstyle. Give up the hairstyle that introduces tensions to your hair follicles. For example; tight ponytails, tight braids or any hairstyle that introduces tension to the scalp.

3. Minimize the use of heat when styling hair styling, as these may create strain and breakage of hair.

4. Stress is a major trigger of hair loss. While looking on the brighter side of things isn't always an option, opt to make it more a part of your mantra then not.
